Yes, it’s the week between two major holidays, and a good majority of associations are quiet (some may even be closed!). Plus, chances are very small that you’d even be called in for an interview this week. However, there are some pretty big reasons why you shouldn’t completely ignore your job search over the next few days.
1) It’s quiet: this can be a minus, but also a big plus! Most associations are still open for business, but things are much slower than usual. If you call to follow up, you just might be able to spend a few minutes chatting with human resources and/or the hiring manager.
2) No one else is calling: even if you get voice mail, or send an email and don’t hear back right away, you may be one of the few reaching out during this slow week. This increases the likelihood of you being remembered, since there’ll be fewer incoming messages/emails.
3) January is a strong hiring month: with one of the busiest months for hiring next week, starting now can give you a head start on the competition.
These are just a few of the reasons you may want to consider keeping your job search active this week. Of course you should take the time to enjoy the holidays with your friends and family, and investing as much time as you typically do in your job search isn’t necessary. However, if you make just a few phone calls and apply to a handful of jobs, you’ll still be ahead of the competition!
P.S. In December only, if you purchase a resume and cover letter, you’ll receive a targeted recruiter distribution ($195 value) at no additional cost!
